Dunvegan is a suburb of Edenvale some 20 kilometres east of Johannesburg and falls under the Ekurhuleni municipality. The road closure was established in 2002 in an attempt to reduce the violent crime level which had reached unacceptable levels in the area at that time |

The DSV is a Section 21 non-profit company established and funded by the residents to manage the road closure and over 80% of the residents contribute towards the running costs. It was set up with full permission and approval of the Ekurhuleni Municipality and run according to their prescribed regulations.
The area enclosed consists of the whole of Dunvegan plus Dowerglen Ext 1. Click here for a map of the area which also shows which roads have been closed and the location of the entrances.
